Description
When doing hand-cut joinery nothing beats the physical guide provided to your tool by the scored line made by a wheel-knife marking gauge. But, when you’re working with machinery, the higher visibility of a pencil mark makes set-up easier. Woodpeckers latest OneTIME Tools, the Marking Gauges and Panel Marking Gauges, give you the best of both worlds in one tool. You get both wheel-knife marking and mechanical pencil marking in all four models.
Both marking methods reflect thoughtful design. The wheel-knife registers perfectly at the zero point of the engraved scale. A second knife and four spacers are included, allowing you to lay down two perfectly parallel lines at the same time. Different combinations of spacers and the blades give you every spacing between 1/8" and 1/2" in 1/16" increments. The second blade and any unused spacers fit conveniently in the tail end of the tool.
When you need a more visible line, or one that leaves no trace behind on your final project, rotate the Marking Gauge beam 90° and install our specially designed mechanical pencil. You’ll find it conveniently stored in the tail of the beam (along with the second knife and extra spacers). It threads into the beam, protruding just slightly below. The specially designed pencil uses standard .9mm lead, which is advanced by the hex-head lead screw. These are the only marking gauges on the market that offer both knife-marking and a perfect fitting mechanical pencil.
Subtle details make these tools a joy to use. For instance, when you turn the beam to use the pencil, there’s a second, laser-engraved scale aligned at the center of the pencil lead, you don’t have to try and read the scale on the other side and adjust for the difference in position. You won’t have to keep track of an Allen wrench for adjustments, either…there’s one built right into the locking knob. Both the Marking Gauge and Panel Marking Gauge have fence lengths that provide solid support as you’re guiding along the edge of your stock (3-1/2" on the Marking Gauge and 6-1/2" on the Panel Marking Gauge).
Like all Woodpeckers Tools, the Marking Gauges and Panel Marking Gauges are made in our Strongsville, Ohio factory (just south of Cleveland).
